With a view to the UN 2023 Water Conference, this episode highlights the importance of groundwater and transboundary groundwater cooperation.
We discuss these issues with Alice Aureli, Chief of the Section on Groundwater Sustainability and Water Cooperation at UNESCO, who reflects on main outcomes of the UN Groundwater Summit 2022 looking at the potential of groundwater for sustainable development and the governance for challenges in exploiting this in a sustainable manner. She states that cooperation is now an obligation that needs to be included in national and regional planning as well as in international programmes.
