One of the ongoing trends that can be observed globally is that of an ageing society, and several trend analyses look at how this will impact sustainable development in various regards. But still, 40% of the global population is actually under the age of 25 and in the least developed countries the total number of youth aged 15 to 24 is expected to increase by more than 60% until 2050. Worldwide, we see young people requesting more participation in decision making. This episode of the Trend Observatory on Water podcast series therefore looks at the important role that Youth can and should play in shaping our future water world and how this can be promoted in development cooperation. We discuss these issues with Daniel Maselli, a Senior Policy Advisor on water at SDC, who has been a strong promoter of youth involvement in SDC’s work over the past years.
